Marietta is a retail and dining hub with numerous shopping centers offering a range of shops and restaurants. Merchant’s Walk features a Whole Foods Market, a 14-screen movie theater, and inventive chef-driven eatery Seed Kitchen & Bar. Seed’s menu adds Asian and Latin influences to classic American cuisine. Retailers at The Avenue East Cobb include Banana Republic, Bath & Body Works, Bed Bath & Beyond, Francesca’s, Gap, Loft, Pottery Barn, Sephora, and Williams-Sonoma. The Avenue also has a variety of eateries such as stylish upscale seafood spot Drift Fish House & Oyster Bar. Sandy Plains Centre is anchored by a Kroger supermarket with other businesses, such as the rustic-chic restaurant Aspens Signature Steaks. Aspens lodge-style interior features cozy seating around a roaring fireplace while the menu focuses on perfectly prepared steaks, chops, seafood, fried chicken, and decadent desserts. At New London Square, Williamson Brothers Bar-B-Q is a cabin-like space serving ribs, chicken, burgers, and other dishes cooked over a stone smoker. The nearby Marietta Antique Mall features over 150 dealers with a huge assortment of vintage artworks, home décor items, and collectibles. Marietta also has a Walmart Supercenter and Sam’s Club wholesalers located next to each other at the Marietta Trade Center.
Chattahoochee River Park is a scenic outdoor recreation area with trails and a boat launch. Popular activities at the park include hiking, wildlife and plant spotting, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. Running north from the Chattahoochee River, the one-mile Sope Creek Trail runs alongside a picturesque rocky creek and the ruins of a paper mill destroyed by Union troops during the Civil War. The East Cobb Baseball Complex is a 30-acre facility with eight baseball diamonds and numerous indoor and outdoor batting cages. More than 80 teams from ages seven through 18 are based at this complex. There are more than 60 events at the complex throughout the year, including a tournament featuring over 150 baseball teams. Marietta Square is the heart of downtown. Glover Park in the square’s center has tree-shaded lawns and a fountain. Many shops and restaurants surround the park. The area also features cultural attractions such as the Marietta Museum of History. Housed within a former 1840s cotton warehouse, the Marietta Museum of History occupies the starting point of the famous Great Locomotive Chase of the Civil War. Another popular attraction near the square is the Marietta Gone with the Wind Museum. This museum explores the legacy of Margaret Mitchell’s classic novel and the 1939 Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh movie with props, costumes, and other memorabilia.
